Poetry report October 2016 a bit late this time.

The day started off a bit different with the library staff being a little confused about the poetry group using the meeting room. Eventually we got it sorted and we got into the room at 12:45 instead of 12:00. I’ve spopken with Bindi and the meeting room schedule was not updated that day and there were mainly casual staff, so all’s well that ends well. Been a busy couple of weeks since our last recital and not much spare time for report. This one will be a fair bit shorter than normal.

We had 15 poets arrive on Sunday the 16th, with a few apologies passed on from Kathy, Joan, Tom Manya and Eoin. The optional theme Friendship was well represented and equally was the first line “Does it really matter what others think when……”.

Bob wrote on both and closed the day with a funny poem about a little girl with a lisp and a pet snake at home and her trip to the pet store.

Jean made the trip up from Nth NSW also wrote two great pomes on both topics.

David wrote on Friendship about a kid he knew in England until he was 6 and left the UK and now recently got in contact with him via an email. His other poem was one of Alan Ventura about FB friends.

Judi used the first line in one poem and in her second she wrote about friends in the city and the bush.

Banjo recited the poem about throwing a rock over the river in NSW town of Walgett then “When Darcy Rode the Mule” closing his session with “A Bush Christening”.

Ted quoted the lines form a play he wrote about the miracle of Jesus in his first stance at the podium and on his second he wrote about character and friendship.

Lyn wrote a great funny poem on ‘does it matter’ and had us all laughing with her. Lyn’s second poem on friendship was about the circle of karma.

Joyce wrote on both themes and made us laugh with her realizing she has outlived most of her friends. Her third pome was about the hazards of shopping with today’s “Houso mums” and the feral’s on the loose.

Mac joined in with inviting us to The Bonsai Club, then recited his poem from last month about the city and the bush. His second poem was about friendship and how he now see’s them more often at funeral’s than the golf course or the ‘local’.

Owen wrote on family and friendship love and death. His second poem was was very short and was called “Stow Away”. His third poem was about the madness of political correctness and the question “will liberalism be the ruin of us”. His fourth poem was also about the ups and downs of life.

John wrote about lost love and mermaids rescuing him from the ocean in a storm. His second poem was pondering about aliens drinking beer in zero gravity and would we get big heads instead of beer guts?

Trish recited only one poem, it was about secret woman’s business and was there a universal plan to drive men crazy, if so her Mother failed to pass it on, all she did was teach her to cook and clean.

We have a new ‘John’ he joined us for the first time and he writes poetry in free verse, his three poems were well received and very descriptive and entertaining.

Thank you for your support and for keeping our group going so well. We are doing a recital at ‘The Terraces’ at Bond Uni this Wednesday at a retirement /nursing home. Thank you to those that are attending. Take care and have a good fortnight before we meet again. Irene and Jeff
