Aussie Rules
From me dark hair with me greyin roots
to me tattoeed arms'n' me Japanese riding boots
From me King Gee shorts, tis all that I knows
'n' I gets me bargain's, monthly, "at Lowes!!"
From me old akubra hat and me Holden ute
to me faithful singlet 'n' me abilitiy to shoot
From me love of sunshine 'n' me brown tanned skin
to me stand for a mate, 'n' me will to win
From me poor grammer 'n' me curseful tongue
to me needs on me bike, to "Hit" the ton
From me BBQ perfected, cookin skills
to me truck drivin days, wide eyed, poppin ills
From me two meat 'n' beer staple, Aussie diet
I know I should cook vegies, but I, just aint game to try it
My woman dont ask me to buy those things
she knows what kinda stress that kinda thing brings
I'll come round to ya place when the footy is on
bring me own six pack!! and drink, all -all- all, day long
I'll fix me car in ya driveway, complete with oil leaks
then I'll sit on ya couch 'n' ya'll cop it for weeks
"Ya mates are all lazy, those drunken bums"
then off with the best one of'em, she flamin well runs
We'll, Ive been called a 'wombat' and if the shoe fits I'll wear it
there's been many a time that I've grinned 'n' had cause to bear it
I've stolen all me Dad's best sidchrome spanners 'n' tools
I always empty me Mum's fridge, it's just, one of those rules
I rag on me sister, always callin her dumb
you havn't seen her stinkin , mongrel kids, each 'n' every one!!!
I've punched both me brothers, yeah had two fights with me dad
but the one "I" left standin!!, was the last one we had
So you ask me what it means to have Aussie pride
It's to know on the night of the 25th of April, you're proud to have cried
It's knowin about the date, 6 th day of April 1915
what it is to an Aussie, 'n' what does it mean
It's to work real hard 'n' not be a jerk
'n' to still be able to shake, the hand of a Turk
It's knowin bout places like Milne Bay
'n' how many gave up their youth, so we could be here today
It's being polite to a Japanese tourist, with out any regret
then remindin, those whale killin bastards, that we, never forget
All gave some 'n' some gave their all
thousands of Aussie were there for the forgotten war
It's singin songs like, Jimmies Khe Sahn
and teachin your own Son, how to become a Man
It's knowin names like Snowy Baker'n' ol Billy Grime
then rememberin in ya own dreams, twas you, in Errol's time
It's recitin Banjo, Henry, CJ or Mackellar
It's a beer in the public bar'n' being proud to be a fella
It's lovin ya mate for all that your worth
she should feel like, she's the reason, your still here on earth
I'm proud to say that I, am , an Australian Son
like Namatjira, my heart'n' the soil neath my feet,
together are one!!!
